Farmstead adds hundreds more items to popular offering

LAS VEGAS, March 05, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Farmstead, the first online grocer to offer fresh, high-quality groceries, delivered for free, at better prices than local supermarkets, announced today that is it expanding its popular Refill & Save program that makes ordering groceries online cheaper than going to the store. Initially, Farmstead offered 25 top grocery staples through Refill & Save - now that number is over 300, including products from national brands such as Kraft Heinz, La Croix, Newman's Own and Kerrygold; legendary local Bay Area brands like Acme Bread and DOSA; and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Farmstead made the announcement from Shoptalk 2019, taking place in Las Vegas, March 3-6, 2019.

“Online grocers and grocery delivery companies have traditionally struggled with profit margins,” said Pradeep Elankumaran, Co-founder and CEO of Farmstead. “Farmstead changed the entire business model with custom-built AI-powered software for predicting demand, stocking precisely, and sourcing directly with brands to get the lowest prices. Our technology has enabled Farmstead to provide customers with low prices while still optimizing profitability so we can grow the business.”

Farmstead’s Refill & Save provides customers with recurring orders with significant discounts on certain staples, including milk, eggs, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and bread - discounts that bring the prices of those items down to below-average cost for the Bay Area. Farmstead automatically queues up customers’ recurring weekly orders - customers can then add or delete any items for the week, or even cancel a weekly order entirely, up to an hour before their delivery window without penalties. This week, Farmstead lowered its weekly order minimum for Refill & Save orders to just $20.

The service is built on the premise that most households buy many of the same things every time they grocery shop. Providing user-centric digital products to support that behavior helps Farmstead predict demand, reducing its costs and improving efficiency, in turn enabling the company to reduce prices on certain staples while still making the business profitable.

Farmstead is seeing increasing inbound interest from CPG brands that want to be involved with Refill & Save, says Elankumaran, to increase their exposure to Farmstead customers.
